Stakeholders in Mponela, Dowa have launched 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (GBV) today.

The launch coincides with growing cases of rape and defilement amongst children and women in the country.

The event started with a march and Halima Daud, Deputy Minister of Local Government attended the event.

The event is being held under the Theme; Unite to End Gender Based Violence :Prevent, Report, Respond, Fund!.

In terms of defilement cases, in 2018, the Malawi Police Service recorded a total of 1,539 cases. In 2019, 1,766 cases were recorded, whereas in 2020, between January and September,  1,501 cases have been recorded.
