The first witness testifying against Norman Chisale, personal bodyguard to former head of state Peter Mutharika, Pythius Hiwa has finished testifying before Lilongwe Magistrate Court in the Chisale’s alleged fake certificate case.

Chisale was arrested by the Malawi Police Service for impersonating another person to join the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) in 1996.

Hiwa who told the court that Chisale stole his certificate and used it to join the army in 1996 also said Chisale was threatening to kill him to an extent that he just decided to flee the country to Zambia.

Hiwa further told the court that he reported the issue to military police at Kamuzu Barracks and the legal aid Bureau but did not report to police.

Chancy Gondwe, lawyer representing Chisale described state’s first witness as a liar saying he was giving contradicting statements.

According to Gondwe, Hiwa lied to the court when he said Chisale was still working with MDF in 2012 as Chisale left the Force in 2008.

In reaction, Pilirani Masanjala State lawyer, said it is the Court’s duty to determine whether the witness was lying or not basing on his statements.

Masanjala has that state has 6 more witnesses to be paraded.

Senior resident Shyreen Chirwa has since adjourned the matter to Friday this week.
