Five unidentified armed robbers on Monday ambushed a Mukuru bound Safeguard cash-in-transit vehicle and stole US$35 000.
According to police, the movie-style robbery occurred on 30 November near N. Richards, Chivi at around 9:34 am.
Zimbabwe Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the five gunmen disarmed the security guards and stole the cash box that contained the money before speeding off the crime scene in a blue Toyota Revo twin cab.
“The robbers pointed firearms at the security guards as they were disembarking from the vehicle and disarmed them before stealing a cash box containing USD$35 000.00 ZAR 350 000.00 and ZWL$2000.00 from the vault.
“They jumped into an unregistered blue Toyota Revo twin cab which was used as a getaway car and sped off towards Mandamabwe Business Centre, he said.
