The Zomba city council has called on government to rehabilitate Zomba state Lodge which is currently in a dilapidated state.

The council has disclosed plans to construct a shopping mall and a hotel as a means to increase revenue and transform the old capital’s look.

The Chief executive officer for Zomba city council Charles Thombozi, made the disclosure while outlining plans the city has put in place for economic development.

Thombozi said the council will achieve this through the public Private partnership arrangement.

Apart from this, the city also intends to construct a market and is currently looking for donors.

Meanwhile, Minister of Local government, Lingson Belekanyama has stressed the need to clarify on land ownership in the city of Zomba.

The city has mutiple landlords with customary land, Malawi Housing land as well as land belonging to the city and ministry of lands.

Meanwhile, the ministry has disclosed that it had completed developing plans of transferring land in the cities to belong to the city and is currently awaiting approval from parliament.
