The former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has supposed that the Tonse Alliance administration is harassing former Head of State Peter Mutharika who is also DPP president.
The claim was made yesterday in Lilongwe whereby top officials from the DPP led by the Party’s Spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira held a press briefing in which they addressed party and ‘national’ issues.
According to Mpinganjira, the move made by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to freeze bank accounts of the former president is aimed at embarrassing him.
The ACB froze bank accounts belonging to Mutharika, his wife Gertrude and former personal bodyguard to Mutharika, Norman Chisale over the Cement saga.
According to Mpinganjira, the move is to silence Mutharika not to continue leading DPP.
He further alleged that the current Tonse Government has lost direction.
Over the issue of freezing his account, Mutharika has asked the ACB to consider unfreezing them else he will seek legal action.
Not long ago, Mutharika penned Standard Bank to unfreeze his account arguing that the minimum period of three months has erupted.
