Days after the Attorney General Chikosa Silungwe penned Ministry of Homeland Security to start legal processes regarding extradition of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda has signed the request.
Following the development, Face of Malawi can reveal that the couple can be arrested once the papers are submitted to court.
Bushiri and his wife were released by Magistrate Viva Nyimba after they handed themselves over to the Police Authority when the couple learned that the Malawi Police Service has been served with warrant of arrest from South Africa days after they skipped the country.
In his ruling, Magistrate Nyimba released unconditionally the couple on the grounds that their arrest was illegal as the Homeland Minister and ministry of justice did not endorse the said arrest as required by law.
Pretoria then served Lilongwe with a formal extradition request of the Bushiris, hence the development.
Before skipping bail in South Africa, Bushiri and wife spent over two weeks in custody before they were released on Bail by the Pretoria Magistrate Court.
According to Bushiri, the decision to bolt South Africa came after he felt unsafe in the country as the Rainbow Nation failed to assure them of their safety and security.
He also added that he feels he will not be able to face fair trial in South Africa.
Up to date no one knows how the leader of enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) and his wife left South Africa where they are answering charges of Fraud and money laundering.
Here are also pending arrest warrant for Bushiri on rape charges but Bushiri has been denying of the accusations leveled against him.
