Hookers in Beitbridge are saying business is booming as they are reportedly making a killing from truck drivers waiting to get Covid-19 clearances to cross the border.
Under strict Covid-19 regulations from both SA and Zimbabwe governments, truckers are required to get Covid-19 PCR certificates before they can cross the border.
The PCR certificates can take up to 2 weeks to be processed a situation hookers have embraced with both arms.
According to H Metro hookers have taken the opportunity to make the most out of this situation, during the day they cook and wash for the drivers and at night they engage in their normal business and pleasure the truckers.
A herbal vendor said the hookers spend most of their time walking around the trucks looking for an opportunity to make quick money
“They will be all over here walking along the trucks looking for potential clients.
“Some will be in the guise of selling some food or wares as they will also be trying to hook up.
“With these long queues imagine for more than 10 kilometres, they will not miss,” he said.
A truck driver told H Metro that the challenges of the ordinary life of a truck driver are being worsened by the Covid-19 induced delays that tempts them to give in to the advances of the hookers.
“You know driving is a challenge when the border is delaying like this.
“You can’t be perfect at times and the temptation is high since these women can approach us and if they see that you have some interest that’s when the whole issue begins.
“Imagine spending weeks at the border, it’s a bit tricky,” he said.
A hooker said it is just business and that cooking services between the two can sometimes lead to sexual services.
“It’s known everywhere that one has to pay for the services rendered.
“We are here for business but we agree first.
“Some of the services can be cooking but we can end up agreeing to sexual services again.
“So kubatsirana from both angles,” she said.
While another hooker said they charge up to R300 depending on the type of service the client requires.
