In Kenya, a second-year student at Kisiwa Technical Training College in Bungoma County is nursing knife injuries after she was attacked by her former husband.

Nafula Mwasame says she was attacked at about 8 pm while in her house by Peter Juma, the father of her two children who hails from Lugari, Kakamega County.

Narrating the ordeal from her hospital bed, Nafula said that she separated two years ago from the man after a disagreement.

“It was at around 8 pm. I had gone outside to check on a fellow student and on coming back I found my ex-husband in my room seated. I was shocked to see him but humbled myself and also sat down to know what he had come for. He did not greet me but just asked ‘where are my kids? I want my kids.

Before I could say anything, he got up, pulled out a knife and raised it up aiming at me. I screamed and bent sideways to protect my face and it landed on my back as he scampered off leaving it there. I screamed my heart out.

By the time my friends rushed to check what the matter was, he had already fled,’’ she said.

Nafula added: “We have not been communicating over the last two years and I do not understand why he came to attack me in my house,’’ she said.

She said she returned to her parent’s home after the husband, Peter, threatened to kill her. It was while at her parent’s home that she joined college.

Her mother, Rose Mwasame, condemned the incident, saying that on the fateful day, she saw [Peter] hovering around her homE.

“I spotted my son-in-law at around 1 pm near my home. Then in the evening I received a distress call from the college tutor informing me that my daughter had been stabbed,” she said.

The incident was confirmed by Odi Bachemu, the deputy nursing officer-in-charge at Elgon View Hospital in Bungoma town where she is admitted.

She said the patient was brought to the hospital with the knife still stuck in her back.

“She was brought in bleeding but we attended to her and had the knife removed and she is now in a stable condition,’’ she said.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

The incident happened on Tuesday, December 15, at a residential estate neighbouring Kisiwa College.
