Former President Arthur Peter Mutharika has named his retirement home in the Eastern District of Mangochi after his name.

The naming is an indirect response to social media slurs where some quarters of the society nicknamed Mutharika’s residence as ‘Nyekhwe Palace.’

“Today, the President of Malawi, His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera, made a courtesy call on me at my Villa Mutharika in Mangochi.

“We had a very good chat,” said Mutharika after the meeting.

After losing the fresh Presidential Polls on June 23, 2020, Mutharika left the State House for Mangochi and settled at Villa Mutharika.

The plot is allegedly owned by his Child Moyenda Mutharika.
