Mzuzu Muslim Jamat Vision 2020 which is under Muslim Association of Malawi (Mam) has donated a K5 million two-tone Toyota Canter Lorry to Mam -North.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony of the vehicle, Chairperson for Mzuzu Muslim Jamat Vision 2020, Abdurfashed Phokoso said the vehicle will ease mobility among members of Mam North.
“Mam North has been facing a lot of challenges, especially during funerals and they were forced to hire vehicles during funerals which cost them a lot,” said Phokoso.
He said it took a short period for Muslims to heartily contribute towards the buying of the vehicle.
“I did not expect such commitment from the members towards this initiative. This is evidence enough to explain that they were indeed concerned with the challenges Man-North was experiencing,” he said.
During the same ceremony, Mam- North disclosed that it has plans to build a hospital at Dunduzu within Mzuzu City and that fundraising for the cause has already commenced.
Chairperson for Mam-North, Kasimu Matola said the hospital will help not only Muslims in Mzuzu but also other people of different denominations in the north.
“Population in the region is growing fast and this mounts pressure in public hospitals. Other people need private hospitals for various reasons, hence the decision to build a private hospital.
The hospital will also help us source money for Mam-North besides reducing congestion in public health facilities,” Matola said.
Matola further said the organisation also intends to build facilities such as schools, mosques, hospitals, and higher professional training institutions.
“We had only one mosque but currently we have three of them in Mzuzu and considering the high increase of Moslems, we feel the need to continue building such structures,” he said.
The ceremony was among other activities, graced by National Chairman of Mam, Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad and Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City, Bennex Mwamulima.
