Police in Blantyre arrested eight people for failing to wear face masks, contravening the newly gazetted Covid-19 rules and regulations.
The eight were arrested at Lunzu Trading Centre in the morning of Tuesday, 20th January, 2021.
The suspects appeared before Chisenjere First Grade Magistrate Court where they pleaded guilty to the offence.
His worship First Grade Magistrate George Chimombo sentenced them to pay a combined fine of K75,000 or to go to jail for three months.
The suspects managed to pay the fine.
Police, as a law enforcement agency is mandated to ensure compliance by all citizens.
The eight convicts hailed from Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre District.
