Dante Brooks, the son to the Dancehall star, Mavado has been convicted of murder.
The 18-year-old, and his co-accused, Andre Hinds, were both found guilty of murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and arson o Wednesday in the Supreme Court in Kingston, Jamaica.
Their conviction stems from the June 5, 2018, home-invasion homicide of Lorenzo Thomas in the Cassava Piece community in St. Andrew, Jamaica.
During a lengthy month-long trial, the Crown led evidence that Brooks and Hinds were among a group of men who forcibly entered Thomas’ house and accused him of being a member of an opposing faction that was at odds with them, then shot and killed him.
The killers then set Thomas’ body and house ablaze after pouring gasoline on them.
Brooks and Hinds were subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
The Crown’s main witness was Thomas’ father who gave eyewitness testimony during the trial that he was at home at the time of the incident and that the killers are known to him.
During the invasion, the victim’s father is said to to have been pushed into another room by his son’s killers.
Brooks and Hinds are to know their fate on March 10, when they’ll be sentenced.
