Police in Ntcheu are keeping in custody a 20-year-old man identified as Chifundo Ndala, for allegedly raping a 66-year-old woman.
The suspect, allegedly committed the offence at Linthethe river where the victim went to wash her clothes.
After he forced himself on the woman, the suspect is also said to have started chasing the lady’s daughter to rape her, according to police publicist Hastings Chigalu.
The young girl was only saved by some villagers who were coming from their farm.
During caution statement at Ntcheu Police Station, the suspect denied the rape charges levelled against him.
He told the officers that he had agreed to have sex with the woman but wondered why she claimed otherwise.
He said the lady owed her money and they had agreed to have sex instead.
He further alleged that it was the second time for the two to have sexual intercourse.
Mdala went ahead to say that the two last met in December last year.
The case entered before the Ntcheu Second Grade Magistrate’s Court on Friday, February 05, 2021 for plea.
The case which contravenes section 133 of the Penal Code, is expected to enter in court on February 12, 2021 for further hearing.
Ndala, who hails from Kaziputa Village, Traditional Authority Njolomole in the district is currently remanded at the prison waiting for full trial of the case.
