41 year old Doctor Longwe has seen the wrath of Nkhata Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Court as he is going to spend Four years behind bars, for breaking into a shop and stealing property worthy K1 million at Mzenga trading centre in the district.

The court through state prosecutor Inspector Pleasant Sichali of Nkhata Bay Police Station,  heard that on January 17, 2021 Longwe and his two accomplice, broke into a shop belonging to Eliza Phiri and went away with property costing over K1 Million Kwacha.

They were charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony contrary to section 311 of the Penal Code.

During their appearance in court, Longwe who was the first accused person pleaded guilty to the charge unlike his colleagues.

In submission, the State Prosecutor Sichali prayed for stiffer sentence on Longwe as the rest await for witnesses.

Sichali said the trio committed serious offence deserving a deterrent sentence.

In mitigation, Longwe told the court that he was the first offender hence pleaded for leniency.

Passing his judgment, Senior Resident Magistrate Issa Maulidi, concurred with the state and slapped the convict with a 48 months jail term.

The convict hails from Chaundwa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhata Bay District.
