United Transformation Movement (UTM) president Saulos Chilima who is also the country’s vice president is celebrating his 48th birthday today.
Chilima is in his second term as the vice president of Malawi under the Lazarus Chakwera administration after Serving Peter Mutharika.
He was brought into the political atmosphere by the former Head of State Peter Mutharika in 2014, in which the duo ousted ex leader Joyce Banda after serving her two year term.
At the end of Mutharika term, Chilima fall out of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) after Calista Mutharika came in the open and suggested that Chilima should take over from Mutharika as president.
He later announced that he has resigned from the party and formed his UTM which appeared on the nullified 2019 presidential elections and he whooped over 1 million votes.
He later joined forces with Malawi Congress party (MCP) nd other parties to form the Tonse Alliance which won the court sanctioned fresh presidential elections on June 23.
