ZIMBABWE – In a rather tragic development, a four-year-old boy died on the spot after he was hit by a haulage truck.

Faceofmalawi  has established that Roland Chimunyuko who was coming from Sierra Village with his mother(name not supplied) was hit by a haulage truck after he bolted from his mother while they were waiting to cross the busy Harare-Chirundu highway in Nyamakate, Hurungwe District.

Officer commanding police in Kariba district Superintendent Saul Mhanqwa confirmed the tragic incident which happened at the 267 km peg along the Harare-Chirundu highway to The Herald.

On the day when the incident happened, whilst they were waiting to cross, Roland is alleged to have loosed himself from his mother’s grip and ran into the road.

Incidentally, a truck headed towards Harare and carrying 32 tonnes of soya beans was approaching and it hit him.

Sadly, Roland died on the spot and was found to have sustained head injuries and a broken left leg.

ZRP Kariba Traffic attended the scene and the deceased was ferried to Karoi District Hospital mortuary for post mortem.

As for the vehicle it is yet to be inspected by the VID.

Meanwhile, Kariba district Superintendent Mhanqwa said investigations by ZRP Kariba Traffic were still underway.

He, however, revealed that preliminary findings indicated inattention and misjudgment as the cause of the tragic incident.
