Senior Resident Magistrate Shireen Chirwa has adjourned to this afternoon the case in which former executive director of the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority-Mera Collins Magalasi is accused of abusing his office in 2018.
Earlier, Magalasi’s lawyer Andy Kaonga requested the court for an adjournment to a later date because he had insufficient time to go through some documents, and since had a health challenge.
However, the magistrate denied to grant the adjournment, upon which Kaonga told the court to recuse itself on the basis that it is biased toward the state.
The case continues at three pm, when Magistrate Chirwa will make a ruling on that.
