Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Chris Daza has faulted the way the party is preparing for its convention slated for next month.

Daza said in an interview on Tuesday that “very few people” are involved in the preparations.

MCP has, however, said Daza himself is to blame for the lack of information on the party’s preparations, as he has alienated himself from the party for over a year.

Daza, who said is comfortable with the dates of the convention, April 27 to 29, said there are a lot of things which need to be corrected before the convention.

“The way the party is preparing for the convention is still mysterious. There has been no communication on so many things. It is not open yet. The president [John Tembo] is working with very few people in the party in the preparations. That has to be corrected as soon as possible,” Daza said.

He, however, said he is not deterred in his quest to contest for the position of the party’s president at the convention.

“I am very prepared. I’m set. Soon I will be holding a press conference, where I will articulate my vision for the party,” Daza said.

But reacting to Daza’s concerns, the party’s Administrative Secretary Potiphar Chidaya said Daza is to blame for his lack of information on party issues, saying he has alienated himself from the party for a long time.

“After he was reinstated as the party’s Secretary General, he has never been to the party’s offices. How can he be rude like that? Did he expect us to pull him from wherever he operates to the party’s headquarters?” Chidaya wondered.

The MCP announced that it will hold its convention next month at a political rally held at Chadza in Lilongwe rural.
