The Lilongwe Magistrate Court has adjourned to Monday, February 22, 2021 a case involving former Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) chief executive officer Collins Magalasi, business person Dorothy Shonga and two other MERA officials Patrick Maulidi and Bright Mbewe.
The four appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Shyreen Chirwa this morning for plea taking but the defence lawyers raised objections citing irregularities in the charges.
Some of the charges did not apply to some of the accused. Mbewe was also not represented after falling out with his lawyer.
Director of Public Prosecutions Steve Kayuni admitted that there were some irregularities but said they will be worked on and a fresh charge sheet will be made.
However, he faulted the defence for raising the objections late saying they had enough time to file a notice on the irregularities as they were served with the charge sheet a long time ago.
He accused the defence of playing delaying tactics.
Senior Resident Magistrate Shyreen Chirwa has since ordered that the case should continue next Monday at 3 pm.
