Government has dumped the Telecentres Project which was initiated by the previous administration.

The announcement has been made by Minister of Information, Gospel Kazako who says government wants to boost information and communication technology (ICT) in the country by making sure that everyone has the right to access technology, as opposed to selective construction of technology service provision structures.

According to Kazako, the decision has been made because: “Most of these centres were constructed near a Member of Parliament’s house simply because the facility comes with electricity and other good things.”

He also says contractors of the facilities were also just constructing substandard structures without regard for quality, which he said would make the buildings not last longer.
