Police in Blantyre have arrested a Malawian of Indian origin for abducting and keeping a person in his shop for the whole day without any food and water.

Blantyre Police Spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press.

According to Nkhwazi, the suspect Faizuddin Miabahuddin aged 53 hired a person to work in his new shop near Chayamba Building but later chose to lock him up.

Having sensed of the situation, people surrounded his shop and later beat him up as the person was still inside the shop.

He said police managed to rescue the suspect from the angry people.

The suspect will now answer a charge of abducting to confine a person and will appear in court when he is feeling better.
