Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has released names of foreign based players who are expected to join locally based ones in the World Cup Qualifiers’ encounter against the Brave Warriors of Namibia.
The first leg match is scheduled to take place on March 23, 2013 at the Independence Stadium in Namibia.
The squad which comprises four Mozambican based, five South African based and one from Angola is expected to travel direct to Namibia soon after being released by their respective clubs five days before the match.
In the Squad, FAM has banked their hopes on three Liga de Malcumana based players, Simplex Nthara, Zicco Mkanda and inspirational midfielder Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo.
Other Mozambican based players who have made it into the squad are Moses ‘Luba’ Chavula from CD Costal de Sol while from the rainbow nation, players like Atusaye ‘Atute’ Nyondo, Harry Nyirenda, no nonsense Limbikani ‘Pupa’ Mzava , Peter Wadabwa and Robert ‘Baggio’ Ng’ambi have booked themselves a plane to Windhoek.
However, missing on the list is Polokwane City vast experienced striker Esau ‘Black Mamba’ Kanyenda, who is in top form having scored over the weekend in their 2-0 victory to Jomo Cosmos.
Another notable face missing on the list is Mozambican based Chiukepo Msowoya and Robin Ngalande.
During the unveiling ceremony of the three Flames caretaker coaches, in their remarks, Patrick Mabedi and Ernest Mtawali said one of their duties was to select foreign based players since they have been in South Africa and they were following on their performances.
“One of my duties with Ernest is to help in the selection of foreign based players who ply their trade in South Africa since we have been following on their performances,” said Mabedi.
Meanwhile, locally based players have intensified their preparations at the Kamuzu Stadium with the likes of Fischer ‘Jahman’ Kondowe, Frank Banda, John ‘Kintu’ Lanjesi, Bongani Kaipa, George Nyirenda, Douglas ‘Section 65’ Chirambo, Gabadihno Mhango, Ndaziona Chatsalira, Harvey Mkacha and Foster ‘Zagaf’ Namwera being among the players in camp.
