Super League of Malawi (Sulom) in conjunction with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) covid 19 Task Force have started conducting covid 19 tests to super league players in preparation for the return of football.
Sulom vice-general secretary Zakalia Nyirenda has confirmed the development in Lilongwe when the teams based in the capital underwent the tests yesterday at Civo stadium.
The development follows the Presidential Task Force announcement on Monday evening that the country has registered a decline in covid infection with 6.4 percent in the past 48 hours.
The chairperson for FAM Covid 19 task Chimango Munthali upheld the announcement saying the future for the return of the TNM Super League looks promising.
“So far, with the covid 19 trends at 6.4 percent, there are chances that football may return in 14 days,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nyirenda stressed that testing exercise will continue today in Salima with stadium personals, stewards and referees tested as the northern and southern teams wait on their turns tomorrow and Friday.
“This will help teams to know the status of their players before the resumption so as to minimize the prolonged spread of covid 19,” said Nyirenda.
The TNM super league was on January 22 suspended following the new public guidelines which restricted the gathering of 50 people as a means to curb the further spread of the virus.
