In a rather horrific development, a beheaded body of a security guard was found burning on a pile of rubbish in Chiredzi.

Zvazvawa Salani (60) was beheaded and his body set alight with tyres at a plastic recycling yard opposite Chiredzi Magistrates Court.

The community in Chiredzi is still in a state of shock and is struggling to come to terms with the grisly murder of Salani who was a security guard at Maria Mabasa Plastic and Scrap Collection site.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the grisly  murder which happened on March 26 saying;

“The deceased was employed by a company called Maria Mabasa Plastic and Scrap Collection as a security guard. He was found murdered,” he said.

According to a police report, on the fateful day Salani reported for a night shift at his work station. He went to his workplace as usual at around 18:30 hours to look after bales of plastics and scraps- and apparently, that was the last time he was seen alive.

The following day, his co-worker, Brian Mandisvita (28) came to relieve him in the morning and never saw him.

Worried about his workmate’s whereabouts, Mandisvita reported to his boss who later made a police report and came to search for him.

As they were searching for him on the site, they saw a blood trail leading into the fire, where the torso was being burnt using tyres while the head was found in a shrub nearby.

Alarmed by what he had seen Mandisvitsa alerted his boss, who called the police.

According to TellZim, the police have since opened an investigation into the murder as they are trying to establish what happened on that particular day.
