Police in Lilongwe have arrested 33-year-old Yamikani Mwapasa Geoffrey for allegedly stealing over K3 million from Airtelmoney agents.

The suspect has been swindling money from Airtelmoney agents in areas 25, 28, 29, 49, 50 and 51 respectively by pretending to be an employee of Airtel Malawi dealing in service systems upgrading.

Kanengo Police spokesperson Esther Mkwanda said the suspect has been snatching phones and pin codes from agents which he has been using to cash out money.

According to Mkwanda, Geoffrey has also been using a motor vehicle Honda Freed, black in colour registration number CP 8736.

Geoffrey, who hails from Makankhula Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kaphuka in Dedza district, will appear in court soon to answer a charge of theft by trick.
