Teachers from public primary and secondary schools as well as those from Teachers Training Colleges (TTC) are today expected to resume a national wide strike aimed at forcing the Tonse Alliance government to give them COVID-19 risk allowance.

TUM President Willy Malimba confirmed of the development in a statement released on Monday made available to faceofmalawi.

According to Malimba, the resumption of the nationwide strike follows the government’s failure to provide teachers with cash equivalent to Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).

The statement further says TUM will only call off the strike if teachers and TTC lecturers are provided with PPEs in cash-costed package as a once-off payment covering three months.
