As one way of keeping the country free from corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau ( ACB) has taken it’s time in civic educating chiefs in Karonga district on the evils of practicing corruption.
ACB’s Senior Public Education Officer, Edward Kavabingu explained that chiefs are a pillar that can help in fighting against corruption in various sectors.
“We are training these chiefs to have knowledge on how they can fight against corruption in their communities after knowing that these are the only pillars to make this successful. They are the ones who live with people in the villages and know well how they can handle people in as far as the corruption is concerned” Explained Kavabingu.
He further said chiefs should be exemplary so that the people in the communities where they lead emulate their steps.
“If the chiefs are not practicing corruption, their people cannot too. It is for this reason why we are training them so that they should emulate this to their people in the communities”, he added.
Amongst the key messages ACB is teaching chiefs in Karonga are how best they can report corruption related issues to police or any responsible body and foster the follow-ups of all corruption related issues so as to fight against corruption in the country.
The ant-corruption body is currently working across the country, implementing it’s National Ant-Corruption Strategy II( NACS II) which is aimed at making Malawi, a corrupt free country.
