A mid accusation of abuse of over eight hundred million kwacha at Nsanje district council exposed in the 2017/2018 auditor general’s audit report, the council has moved in to dispel the allegations saying their hands are clean.
Nsanje district council Acting District Commissioner Ellen Bikoko confirmed of the development.
Bikoko on Friday said that the Parliamentary Public Accounts committee [PAC] cleared them of the outstanding audit queries for three fiscal years from 2015 to 2018.
However, Bikoko admitted that four audit queries have not been cleared including those of contractors charging Value Added Tax [VAT] without contracts.
Bikoko blames the council’s failure to observe financial management procedures on lack of internal auditor and frequent transfers of officers.
