A woman in Kenya pleaded guilty to killing her husband following a disagreement over the sale of their land.

Hellen Nyaboke, a mother of two in her 50s, is charged with killing her husband James Mecha at their family house in Isinta, Nyamira South by hitting him with a metal rod. She pleaded guilty when she appeared before Nyamira High Court judge Esther Maina.

Nyamira Director of Public Prosecutions Desmond Majale said the couple had a quarrel which resulted in a physical fight.

After the incident, Nyaboke fled with her two children but she was arrested five months later in North Mugirango.

The decomposing body of her husband was discovered in the house a week later by his brother who reported the matter to the police.

The court heard that the victim died of bleeding in the brain which was occasioned by the head injuries. Nyaboke was released on a Sh500,000 (over 3 million kwacha) bond.

“The injuries were consistent with the cause of death,” a post-mortem report said.
