Zimbabwe – In a tragic development, a 50-year-old Binga woman allegedly struck her live-in boyfriend once on the back of his head with an axe accusing him of leaving her alone at home as he went for a beer drink.

Saria Munkombwe (50) of Siawara village under Chief Siachilaba was arrested after she fatally axed her boyfriend Gilbert Mumpande in a fit of rage.

According to reports, Munkombwe pleaded not guilty to attempted murder when she appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Collet Ncube.

She was remanded out of custody on her own cognisance to April 24 for continuation of trial.

It is in the State’s cases that Munkombwe and  Mumpande fell in love sometime in March last year and came up with a weekly roaster whereby they would rotate visiting each other’s home since they stayed in two different villages.

They agreed to spend a week at Munkombwe’s homestead and the following at Mumpande’s.

The court heard that on October 12 last year, the two lovebirds went to Mumpande’s place of residence to spend seven days together.

The following day, Mumpande allegedly left home to go and drink beer at a nearby village without informing Munkombwe.

Munkombwe who was hoping to spend some quality time with her boyfriend was infuriated when she realized Mumpande had left her home all alone. She allegedly packed her bag and went back to her homestead.

Mumpande returned home at around 8 PM and when he realized that she was gone and he decided to follow her.

The court heard that, upon arrival,  Mumpande knocked on her door, she came out and became violent.

Munkombwe allegedly pushed him and he fell on his back.

She went inside the bedroom and returned with an axe. As Mumpande was still trying to rise,  in a fit of rage Munkombwe reportedly struck him once on the back of the neck using the axe before leaving him for dead.

Mumpande sustained a deep cut and bled profusely.

The following morning Munkombwe took the bloodstained axe and handed herself to the police leading to her arrest.
