Former Director General for the state funded broadcaster, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MCB) Aubrey Sumbuleta has spent his entire weekend in police custody after his arrest on Saturday morning.

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera, confirmed that Sumbuleta was arrested at his home in Mpingwe, Blantyre.

According to Kadadzera, Sumbuleta was arrested following recommendations from the Malawi Human Rights Commission Inquiry report on sexual abuse at the Corporation by Sumbuleta.

There have been allegations form MBC female employees that Sumbuleta had been asking sexual favors from them.

Some were even forced to resign from the corporation, according the MHRC report which also added that a number of female employees is willing to testify against Sumbuleta.

However, Sumbuleta is denying all the charges leveled against him.

He is currently at Limbe Police Station.
