Tributes are continuing pouring in for former Malawi’s vice president Justin Malewezi who died on Saturday night at the age of 78.

Malawezi served as the Vice-President of the country in the Bakili Muluzi administration from 1994 to 2004.

Born on December 23, 1943 Malewezi also served as Member of Parliament for Ntchisi North.

Meanwhile, the body of late Dr. Justin Chimera Malewezi has been taken to his residence at Likuni in Lilongwe where it now lays for viewing.

According to the Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO), the funeral for Dr. Malewezi will be held on Saturday April 24 also in Likuni.

He died at a private clinic in Lilongwe’s area 18 on Saturday just before he was to be flown for specialist treatment in South Africa.

Reacting to the devastating news of the passing of Malewezi, President Lazarus Chakwera said he is heartbroken together with the First Lady Monica Chakwera.

Chakwera described Malewezi as one of the pioneers who fought for democracy Malawi is currently enjoying.

“He dedicated his entire life to nation building through the various offices he held in government including that of Secretary to the Government and eventually Vice President of the republic,” Chakwera said.

He added; “His family values, his strong views and love for our heritage, his wisdom in dealing with national matters, his love for the arts as some of the accolades we will miss as a nation.”

In his remarks, Vice President Saulos Chilima said Malawi was given a deep sanctuary of great honorable virtues through the late Malewezi.

He therefore prayed for comfort to the Malewezi family.

May his soul rest in peace.
