An extradition trial for Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary has taken another twist as the couple wants their case to be heard before the Constitutional Court.

The state has downplayed arguments by lawyers for Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary in the extradition trial at the Magistrate Court.

The case failed to continue yesterday in spite of the two appearing before Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa following their application to have their heard as a constitutional referral.

Earlier last month, the defense also filed another application to have the matter handled as a civil case and not criminal an application that was dismissed.

Wapona Kita, lawyer for the Bushiri couple said that his side wants the matter heard before the Constitutional Court to validate some the legitimacy of some regional treaties like the Sadc Protocol.
