Kenya Police in North Mugirango, Nyamira County, have launched a hunt for a 15-year-old boy said to have stabbed his father to death.

The boy allegedly pounced on his father after he retired to bed and attacked him with a kitchen knife during Wednesday night’s incident.

The 45-year-old victim is said to have been taken to Kericho County Hospital where he was treated and discharged only for him to die about 12 hours later.

County Commissioner Amos Mariba said the suspect’s mother told the police that her husband was already asleep, around 9pm, when he was stabbed on the left shoulder by the Standard Five pupil.

The police said they are investigating the incident, to establish if the victim indeed died for the stab wounds or if he had any other condition, having been discharged from hospital after being stabbed.

It was not immediately clear why the boy attacked his father, an incident that has left residents of Bonyengwe village in shock.

Mariba said the boy fled after stabbing his father. The administrator has called on anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the police.

“We are making every effort to apprehend the suspect,” he said.

Investigators visited the home and recovered a blood-stained knife allegedly used to commit the crime.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kinara Hospital mortuary in Nyamira Town where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.
