State House has rejected rumours hovering on the social media claiming that there is infighting in the Tonse Alliance which is led by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Over the past weeks, social media has been awash with claims that all is not well in the Tonse Alliance, with some suggesting the alliance was only in name but practically it is fast disintegrating and is on the verge of collapsing.

The rumours were escalated by a plea from State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also President of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) asking Tonse Alliance followers to remain united.

Speaking during the weekly address on Monday State House Press Officer Brian Banda reassured the nation that all is well within the alliance and that those who are addicted to such fake news are set for disappointment.

“Everything is okay in the Tonse Government. What the Vice President, Dr Saulos Chilima, was saying when he was in the Northern Region is just an appeal to the followers of the different parties forming the Government to make sure that they work together.

“If you can see, there is not any problem in as far as the leaders of Government are concerned. President Chakwera is always preaching on the same. speaking in Parliament, he said that those that are wishing Tonse Government to collapse should just forget it because it’s not going to collapse,” said Banda.

Tonse Alliance is a grouping of nine political parties formed in the run-up to the June 23 fresh presidential poll. They are Malawi Congress Party, UTM, PP, AFORD, MAFUNDE, Umodzi Party, PETRA, Freedom Party and PPM.
