Moroccan media report that more than 1.5 million Moroccans have been arrested in the last nine months for not respecting the country’s Covid-19 precautionary measures.

This translates to a rate of more than 5,700 people arrested every day during that timeframe, the privately owned 2M TV channel quoted Deputy Interior Minister Noureddine Boutayeb as saying on Monday.

“Although this number seems large, it indicates a great involvement of all the authorities in charge of law enforcement” in the country’s programme to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and protect the citizens, Boutayeb said during the weekly question time session in Morocco’s parliament.
