Former Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chief Elections Officer Sam Alfandika has opened up after resigning from the Electoral body.

Alfandika is said to have tendered his resignation on April 26, 2021, according to MEC Chairperson Dr. Chifundo Kachale.

Speaking in an interview with the press Alfandika said he surely knows that he will be assessed and judged by different sections of people in their own right.

Alfandika said he has been compelled to resign as he is taking up a new United Nations (UN) position as an international elections advisor.

Alfandika served on the position at a time he presided over the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections that were riddled by numerous irregularities.

The presidential election results were challenged in court; hence, their nullification and subsequent holding of a fresh presidential election.
