Nsanje business community has taken council officials to task on electrification of Nsanje market which was ironically commissioned by Deputy Minister of Local Government, Halima Daud, in March, 2021.

According to Nsanje district council Chairperson Andrew Piliminta they are banking on the Ministry of Local Government to bail them out as the work requires K87 million.

However Ministry of Local Government Spokesperson Anjoya Mwanza said the council is yet to submit quotation from ESCOM for attention, despite advising them to do so.

One of the concerned person Martin Ntumpha, fears that if the market stays too long without operating, “some people may take advantage to vandalize the infrastructure which is a setback to government projects.”
