President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed dismay and disappointment with the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) decision to reject Ombudsman Martha Chizuma to head the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Yesterday, Chizuma appeared before PAC for her confirmation as the new Director General of the graft busting body following her appointment by President Chakwera but she was turned down.

Speaking in Parliament when delivering the State of Nation Address (SONA) Chakwera said PAC has denied Malawians the services of a strong warrior.

“Not only does this decision deny Malawians the services of a strong warrior, but it also delays our plan to empower the ACB to recruit additional prosecutors and implement the National Anti-Corruption Strategy II (2019-2024),” he said.

He therefore called on parliament to ‘put political and personal interests aside and do its part in accelerating the change Malawians fought for.”
