The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has warned business entities that do not conform and comply to set standards that the law will take its course.
MBS Board Member, Joyce Aziz Banda, issued the warning in Mzuzu when she presided over the award of certificates to companies in the Northern Region for producing quality goods and services.
Banda said substandard goods put the health of consumers at risk.
“MBS mandate is to protect consumers. It is pleasing to note that most people are aware of buying certified products and services,” said Banda.
She added that punitive measures will be meted out to non-compliant firms.
MBS Director General Symon Mandala said most entrepreneurs are forthcoming in the certification scheme these years.
Mandala disclosed that the Bureau will be offering training to the entrepreneurs as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
Cecilia Mseteka, Managing Director for Nyaluwanga Farm, one of the awardees, said the certification has encouraged her business to raise the quality of its products.
