Police in Mponela, Dowa have arrested 10 more vendors for allegedly defying farm gate prices bringing the total number of those arrested to 32 since the season started.

Mponela police spokesperson inspector Kaitano Lubrino has confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press.

The suspects were arrested yesterday at Kayembe, Nambuma and Mponela Trade Centres during a monitoring exercise.

He said police discovered that some vendors were buying maize and Soybeans with tampered with scales while at the same time below the set government farm gate prices.

Police have since confiscated the weighing scales used in buying the commodities and will be sent to Malawi Bureau of Standards for certification.
