Gaurav Sharma, one of India’s biggest YouTubers, has been arrested by the Delhi Police for flying his pet dog after tying it with helium balloons, a video of which has sparked massive outrage on social media platforms.
A complaint was received at Malviya Nagar police station, in which the complainant, Gaurav Gupta, belonging to the ‘People for Animals Society’, alleged that YouTuber Gaurav Sharma, resident of Panchsheel Vihar, and a few others had filmed a video in which they were seen to have tied his pet dog with helium balloons and later they let loose the balloons, thereby making the dog fly in the air and hence, risking its life. The video was shot on May 21, the complainant stated.
The video shows YouTuber Gaurav Sharma, who has more than 4 million subscribers, sitting on the top of a car. A bunch of colourful helium-filled balloons can be seen tied to the upper body of the dog. Sharma picks up the dog and says, “Chalo ab Dollar ko udate hain (Let’s fly Dollar now). He then let loose the balloons and the poor canine floats up to the balcony of a nearby house.
The YouTuber, in the same video, can be seen with his pet dog in a park. He prods the canine to run, saying that it will fly up if it runs. As the video progresses, a woman is seen holding the dog. She releases the canine and it flies up in the air.
The police, after receiving the complaint, arrested Gaurav Sharma under Section 11(1)(D) Prevention to Cruelty to Animal Act, Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act. Sharma, after being arrested, told the police that he made this video for YouTube.
