Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) church has donated Mk10 million to a project aimed at providing free meals to disadvantaged primary school pupils in rural areas with a goal of fighting malnutrition and increase enrollment.

Bushiri made the donation to an organisation called SAVERS FROM THE HEART which is implementing a K43 million project of providing free meals to school going pupils in the rural areas.

In his speech, Prophet Bushiri said making a donation does not mean he has a lot of money; but because he has passion for education of the children in the country.

“As you all know, poverty remains a challenge in the country especially in rural areas. We still have a lot of people including children who have no access to food and basic needs. We still have a lot of people in the country languishing in poverty. As such, initiatives like Kids Kitchen on wheels needs our support.

“That is why I am here to give my full support and commitment to this initiative. Because I know that by supporting school feeding programs, we will increase school enrolment, we will decrease school dropouts and contribute to poverty reduction,” said Bushiri.

Savers From The Heart executive director Eve Chirambo hailed Bushiri’s donation, saying it will go a long way to help implement their project.

Several other organisations and individuals took part in the fundraising. Among others, it included banks such as National Bank, MyBucks, FDH Bank and Standard Bank. Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Nsinja South Hon Francis Belekanyama also graced the event.
Prophet Bushiri is no stranger in supporting education and food security sectors in the country.

For the past 6 years, he has been instrumental in providing free maize across the country. In some occasions, he could also intervene on the market and sale heavily subsided maize to local people.
