As the country is struggling to convince Malawians to go and get second dose of Astrazeneca Vaccine, numbers of new COVID-19 cases have started to rise again in the country.
The new trend comes in amid fears of third wave which is causing more havoc in other countries such as India, South Africa and Zambia.
According to information at hand, in the past 24 hours the country has registered 58 new COVID-19 cases, 18 new recoveries and no new deaths.
“Of the new cases, nine are locally transmitted: six from Blantyre, two from Lilongwe, and one from Nkhotakota Districts while 49 of the new cases are imported (from South Africa): 12 from Mangochi, six from Blantyre, five from Dedza, four from Machinga, three each from Lilongwe, and Ntcheu, two each from Kasungu, Salima, and Mulanje, one
each from Karonga, Thyolo, and Zomba Districts and six are Mozambicans,” reads in part the statement.
The statement further says that, 18 people have recovered from the pandemic with no new deaths.
So far COVID-19 has claimed lives of over 1,000 Malawians.
