Unknown African pregnant passenger, slim and tall, black in complexion, has died in Balaka after the vehicle she boarded at Chingeni bus stage overturned several times.

The accident occurred today June 15, 2021 at Phalula trading centre at around 7:00 hours.

The accident involved a motor vehicle registration number BS 1568 Toyota Probox and was being driven by a Burundian national, John Khate, 55, from the direction of Chingeni heading Zalewa with two passengers on board.

Upon arrival at the said place, due to over speeding, the driver failed to control it.

The vehicle swerved to the extreme nearside of the road and hit two pedestrians who were going the same direction before it overturned several times.

Following the impact, one pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and fractured arms and legs whilst one pregnant female passenger sustained severe body injuries.

She was taken to Balaka District Hospital where she died while receiving treatment.

Balaka Police would like to ask people whose pregnant relative is missing to go and identify the body at Balaka District Hospital mortuary.
