A man was shot and killed while his girlfriend was injured when armed suspects attacked them in their home on Thursday evening.

Captain Nqobile Gwala, police spokesperson said the shooting happened at 19:10.

The couple was at their place of residence when unknown suspects entered their house in Umlazi D-section, Durban Southand.

Gwala said the suspect opened fire and shot and killed the man.

According to Shawn Herbst, spokesperson of Netcare 911 paramedics assessed the scene.

“Paramedics found that the man had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on arrival.

“The woman had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to hospital in a serious condition before the arrival of emergency services,” Herbst said.

Gwala furthermore said police were investigating charges of murder and attempted murder after the couple was shot.

She said the motive for the attack is unknown.

“The matter is still under investigation.”

Earlier this month a man was shot at Mosque in Reservoir Hills in Durban.

Paramedics said a fifty-seven-year-old male was found to be seated in his motor vehicle having sustained multiple gunshot wounds from a high caliber weapon.

Last month shots rang out in Manor Gardens during a shooting when brazen armed suspects opened fire on the occupants of a vehicle that was driving along Mary Thiphe Street.

Two people were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Two charges of attempted murder are being investigated by the Cato Manor police station
