A Lusaka MILITARY woman has narrated how her lover eloped with her maid while she was on night duty.

Comfort Kasongo, 41, of George Township told the Matero Local Court that Betenico Kaindu, 53, was living with her 27-year-old house maid.

Kasongo, who was testifying in a case in which she was sued for restitution of property, accused Kaindu of being promiscuous.

The court heard that Kasongo has been withholding Kaindu’s keys to the shop for over six months.

“We got a loan from AB Bank and I am the guarantor. It is true that I am withholding the keys to his shop because he has been deserting home on different occasions. I don’t know where he is staying at the moment and the bank has been on my neck,” Kasongo said.

She told the court that she had realised that Kaindu did not love her but only wanted to use her.

“This man is not grateful. I have been looking after him and buying everything but he doesn’t appreciate. He got my maid and has been telling her family that I maltreat her.

It is better we go separate ways because I have realized that this man does not love me,” Kasongo said.

In his testimony earlier, Kaindu told the court that Kasongo was withholding his keys because he has dumped her.

He said she has been telling him that he cannot just leave her like that.

“She got my keys and went to the shop in my absence to got six fridges.

She did not end there, she also got my groceries and started distributing to other people,” Kaindu said.

He said despite pleading with her to surrender the keys, Kasongo has refused and told him that he could not do anything because she was a military woman.

Kaindu said he has lost business in the six months his shop has been closed and appealed to the court to compel Kasongo to give him back the keys.

“The fridges she got are not mine. People just brought them to me so that I should repair. The owners of the fridges have been on me,” he said.

Magistrate Kaputo Ng’andwe adjourned the matter to June 21
