Police in Mulanje district has over the weekend arrested three men for allegedly possessing gadgets they used to produce fake currency.
Mulanje Police Publicist Gresham Ngwira has confirmed the development while identifying the three as Rajiv Patel, 28, Issa Yulad, 28, and Martin Nansongole, 36.
According to Ngwira, in February this year, police received a tip that someone owns a cafe where he produces fake currency at Chitakale Trading Centre.
Working on the tip, police detectives went there where they seized two CPUs and other computer accessories.
The items were sent to police headquarters in Lilongwe where analysis confirmed that one CPU contained an image showing two notes, a K200 and K500.
This prompted the arrest of Patel, the owner of the items.
Further investigations led to the apprehending of his accomplices, Yulad and Nansongole.
Police charged Patel with a case of being found in possession of implement for forgery contrary to section 374 (b) of the Penal Code.
His accomplices were charged with selling articles bearing designs in imitation of currency contrary to section 382 of the Penal Code.
Patel hails from Mangani Village, Senior Chief Chikumbu in Mulanje, Yulad, hails from Kawinga Village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre while Nansongole hails from Masuku Village, Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu
Meanwhile, the three have since been remanded at Mulanje Prison as investigations continue.
