A yet-to-be identified truck driver has gone on the run after causing an accident with a public passenger bus in which six people were injured yesterday.
According to Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo, the accident happened at 10:00 hours at Chito area, east of Serenje Boma on the Great North Road.
Katongo explained that the accident happened when accident happened when the driver of the truck threw away his traffic rule book and decided to overtake on a curve which in the process collided with Zongtong bus AIB 4083, property of Likili Motors.
From the resulting impact, the driver of the bus sustained serious injuries that has led to amputation of both his legs.
Five passengers from the bus namely Kelly Sikaonga 39 of Chingola, Violet Kayanda, 45 of Masaiti, Joe Zulu, 23 of Ndola, Fatima Ndalama 19 of Ndola and Aaron Silungwe 41 of Nakonde also sustained injuries from the accident and all admitted in Chitambo Mission Hospial.
“The diver of the truck is on the run,” stated Katongo.
