The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has released on bail former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Dalitso Kabambe and three co-accused persons who are facing abuse of office charges.
The three co-accused persons are Deputy Governor Henry Mathanga, retired Director Rodrick Wiyo, and serving manager Leah Donga whom the forensic audit report of the bank exposed as having a hand in the Covid 19 funds plunder.
Delivering his ruling, chief resident Patrick Chirwa has ordered the four to each provide a 5 million kwacha bail bonds with two million kwacha sureties each.
The court on Tuesday, June 29 charged the four accused with four counts bordering on abuse of office money laundering and Neglect of official duty.
Kabambe’s arrest is believed to be in connection to the K4.3 billion transfer to an account held at FDH Bank which was made the night before the results of the 2020 Fresh Presidential Elections were announced.
